Hello, I just registered for CAFE, but it says that the ASYAWC competition is a “closed application”, even though the competition was supposed to start back up September 1st. When WILL the competition start, then? Thanks!
Hello Charlie – you can now apply right on our site. Let us know if you have any problems.
Thank you so much!
Did you see that the competition is up and running?
Hey, it’s me again. Sorry to bother you, but I’m a little confused. For one thing, in the writing submission link, there’s no place to say I’m entering a writing piece; it just offers visual art types and portfolios. Also, do I have to make my writing into a picture, or can I just send it in a Word document? Lastly, and this is just to make sure, but I’m currently going to school outside of Alaska and my address is therefore not Alaskan–that’s OK, right? Thanks again!
And by the way, yes, you can still register if you’re going to school out of state.
No poetry allowed? Thanks!
Hello Jazz! We do in fact accept poetry – seems a little glitch in the system made it invisible to viewers. It’s all worked out now. Let us know if you have any trouble seeing it.
Wow my 15 year old daughter spends 99% of her time writing and shes pretty good im goingt o tell her all about it
Great! Have her submit!
Hi, I’m thinking of entering in the writing category…is it okay to
Submit a piece that you have already written (like a year or so ago)
That hasn’t been submitted to any other competition, but was used for a school assignment?
Yes, you can absolutely submit work that you wrote in the past, as well as work that has been published elsewhere. If the latter, just be sure to include information regarding prior publication in the additional comments box.
Hi, I was wondering for the poetry category if we had to have stanzas in our poems?
No, stanzas are not mandatory for poetry entries.Your poetry can be in any format or with any formula. Good luck!
Hi, for the novel excerpts, does the 200 word brief have to be 200 words, or can it be a little under 200?
Hello Heather – Your brief can be under 200 words – just not over.
I’m having trouble uploading my entries to the submission page, can I mail it as a hard copy along with the permission form to F Magazine; P.O. Box 240224; Anchorage, AK 99524?
Hey! I was wondering for the art category if there is any theme. I can just submit art peices I have done, right?
Under the art guidelines and rules you will see the different mediums accepted for the competition – which includes just about everything. Look them over and submit. Good luck!
When will the winners be announced?
